Pipefitter and Pipe Welder Staffing for Data Centers
Crews qualified against your welding procedure, not against a general welding resume.
Chilled water is the circulatory system of a data center, and on a large campus the piping package is thousands of welds that all have to pass. Pipefitters and pipe welders are the constraint on that scope in almost every active build market, and the pool that has done it on a live mission critical site is much smaller than the pool that says it has.
Most staffing firms treat welding as one skill. It is not. A welder qualified on 6G carbon steel with stick fill is not qualified for your stainless spec, and putting him on it produces a failed test day, a lost week and a crew that has to be rebuilt. We screen against the job's own paperwork before anyone is presented.
How we qualify a welder before you see him
We ask for the welding procedure specification and the procedure qualification record the job is built on. Those two documents define the process, the position, the base material, the filler and the thickness range that actually apply.
Each welder's own welder performance qualification record is then checked against that, rather than against his resume. If the qualification does not cover your procedure we say so instead of presenting him and hoping.
Where the client requires a test weld before badging, we send the welder to test. A weld test is a cheap way to settle a question that paperwork alone sometimes cannot.
Scope this crew covers
Chilled water and condenser water mains and branches, pump and plant equipment piping, CDU and secondary loop piping on liquid cooled halls, process and make up water, compressed air, fuel oil for generator plants, and fire protection piping where the mechanical package carries it.
Supporting work that keeps a pipe crew productive: rigging and setting equipment, hangers and supports, layout, hydrostatic testing support, flushing and cleaning, and the insulation coordination that follows behind the fitters.
Roles we place
The bench segments inside this specialty.
Pipe Welder
TIG root with stick or wire fill, carbon, stainless and alloy, qualified to the job's own procedure and position.
Pipefitter
Layout, cutting, fitting, hanging and testing. Chilled water, condenser water, process and equipment piping.
Welding Foreman / General Foreman
Leads the piping crew under your superintendent's direction. Weld map tracking and repair rate reporting.
Rigger
Setting pumps, chillers, heat exchangers and plant equipment, and the pick planning that goes with it.
Welding Inspector (CWI)
Visual inspection, weld map governance, coordination with third party nondestructive examination.
Mechanical Superintendent
Placed onto your team to lead the piping package across crews. Sequencing, manpower loading, testing and turnover coordination.
What we check before a welder is presented
- Welder performance qualification record checked against the job's WPS and PQR, not against the resume
- Process, position, base material, filler and thickness range all confirmed to cover the actual scope
- Repair and rejection rate history where a prior contractor tracked it
- Live construction site history, and mission critical or industrial piping specifically where the spec is tight
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 as the site requires, plus confined space and hot work training where the scope needs it
- Verified record of working away from home for travel jobs, checked against project history
Why welding staffing goes wrong
The failure is almost never the welder. It is the assumption that welding is one qualification. A supplier who does not ask for the WPS before presenting people is telling you they will find out on test day, at your expense.
We ask for the procedure first. It is a slower first phone call and a much faster crew.
What we don’t do
We don't present a welder whose qualification record does not cover the procedure on your spec. We don't take a verbal description of the spec when a copy of it settles the question. We don't send a pipe crew without our own foreman on it, and we don't quote a crew size for a market before checking who is actually available there.

Frequently asked
- How do you confirm a pipe welder is qualified for our job?
- By reading your paperwork, not his resume. We ask for the welding procedure specification and the procedure qualification record the job runs on, which together define the process, position, base material, filler and thickness range. We then check each welder's own qualification record against that. A welder qualified on 6G carbon with stick fill is not automatically qualified for a stainless TIG spec, and treating those as interchangeable is the single most common cause of a failed first test day. Where you require a test weld before badging, we send the welder to test.
- What piping scope do your crews cover on a data center?
- Chilled water and condenser water mains and branches, pump and plant equipment piping, CDU and secondary loop piping on liquid cooled halls, process and make up water, compressed air, generator fuel oil, and fire protection piping where the mechanical package carries it. The same crews handle rigging and setting plant equipment, hangers and supports, layout, hydrostatic test support and flushing.
- Do you supply welding machines and consumables?
- It is a decision we make explicitly with you before a purchase order is issued rather than leaving it ambiguous. Machines, consumables, rigging and personal protective equipment are each priced as in or out of the hourly rate, in writing. Ambiguity on this line is the most common reason a manpower invoice gets disputed, and it is entirely avoidable.
- Can you supply a certified welding inspector as well as welders?
- Yes. CWIs sit in our quality bench alongside QA/QC inspectors, and on a large piping package it is normal to place a welding inspector alongside the crews we supply, working to your quality program. Where the owner requires an independent inspector we will say so rather than putting ourselves on both sides of the quality line.
